Square in nature

Andrei awoke
to the sound of strumming
and realized that he was
inside a guitar

Light shone through the sound hole
and he managed to climb up
and slip through the strings

Remembering his mission,
Andrei set off to find out
what was square in nature

Dodging the ants
as best he could,
engaging, occasionally, in battle with them,
he observed the treasures
they carried
to their home:
hexagonal fragments
of honeycomb,
triangular chips,
pentagonal slices of star fruit,
and salt crystals
that were square

His mission accomplished,
Andrei got back into the guitar
and waited
until someone came and played

It wasn’t long,
and as the music moved
faster and louder,
Andrei was transported back
to his time and place
